Miguel Rozas (b. 1971, Temuco, Chile) is a Chilean-Belgian filmmaker and visual artist based between Berlin and Brussels. Working across documentary cinema, artists’ moving image, installation, and analogue photography, his practice investigates the intersections of politics, media, and visual representation.

His work examines the social and political conditions shaped by globalization and the neoliberal order, focusing on what remains beyond dominant narratives and media visibility. Rather than documenting events, Rozas is interested in the spaces of silence, absence, and marginality—where overlooked gestures, peripheral landscapes, and invisible communities reveal the underlying structures that shape contemporary life.

Through a restrained visual language characterized by long duration, stillness, and an economy of means, he creates works that invite sustained attention. Slowing down perception becomes a political gesture: an act of resistance against the accelerated circulation of images and the spectacle of contemporary media. His films and photographs open contemplative spaces where time itself becomes a material, allowing viewers to encounter the complexity and dignity of lives often excluded from representation.

At the core of his practice lies an ethical commitment to looking. Rozas understands the image not as an instrument for producing certainty, but as a space where ambiguity, memory, and lived experience can coexist. His work challenges conventional modes of seeing, encouraging a deeper awareness of how images construct our understanding of the world.

Rozas studied Visual Arts and Film in Chile, Germany, and France, attending ARCOS in Santiago, FH Würzburg, ESAV Toulouse, and the master's program at the Universität der Künste Berlin. His films, photographic works, and installations have been presented internationally in museums, galleries, festivals, and independent art spaces across Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Alongside his artistic practice, he has worked as a director, cinematographer, and collaborator with European broadcasters and contemporary artists on international projects.
